FOX SPORTS TO UNLEASH NEXT GENERATION OF ORIGIN STARS
19/04/2012
FOX SPORTS is giving Rugby League fans the opportunity to peer into the future of State of Origin with LIVE and EXCLUSIVE coverage of the inaugural Under 20's interstate showpiece this weekend.
State of Origin has a new battleground with the arrival of the inaugural Under 20's clash between arch rivals New South Wales and Queensland this Saturday night.
The first clash in what will be an annual one-off encounter for state supremacy at the Under 20 level will feature the best talent from the league's national youth competition, Toyota Cup.
All players selected for the historic clash have played in the Toyota Cup, while the New South Wales team includes six players with NRL experience - Cheyse Blair (Eels), Jacob Miller (Wests Tigers), Harry Siejka (Panthers), Matt Groat (Wests Tigers), Boyd Cordner (Roosters, pictured above) and Alex McKinnon (Knights).
LIVE coverage will begin at 7pm AEST on FOX SPORTS 2HD & FOX SPORTS 2 as Mark Braybrook joins current Blues Coach Ricky Stuart, Queensland's youngest ever State of Origin debutante Ben Ikin, and former Blues halfback Brett Kimmorley to preview the contest before calling the action from Penrith's Centrebet Stadium.
Kimmorley, who made 10 State of Origin appearances for the Blues throughout his 16 years in the top grade, said the Under 20's version of Rugby League's pinnacle event will be fought with trademark Origin intensity.
"Whenever New South Wales and Queensland play against each other in rugby league, or any sporting contest for that matter, the stakes are infinitely higher," he said.
"I'm really looking forward to this match to see that mix of Origin intensity and the superb skill that we see on display each week from these young stars of the Toyota Cup."
"Under 20's State of Origin is a great concept and I can see this match becoming one of the must-watch games of the rugby league season."
The winner of the annual clash will take home the Darren Lockyer Shield.
FOX SPORTS' LIVE and EXCLUSIVE coverage of the Toyota Under 20's State of Origin is available in HIGH DEFINITION for FOXTEL and AUSTAR sports subscribers.
